ALICE is an acronym for Asset Limited, Income Constrained, Employed – representing the growing number of single adults and families who earn less than the basic costs of living (Below the ALICE Threshold).
40% of Connecticut households continue to live below the ALICE Threshold — the income necessary to live and work in the modern economy. This is an increase of 13% since 2019.
"In 2023, of Connecticut’s 1.4 million households, 11% (160,037) were below the Federal Poverty Level (FPL), and another 29% (420,483) were ALICE — households with income above the FPL, but not enough to afford the ALICE Household Survival Budget for their household composition and location." -ALICE Report
This 40% who are working hard to survive below the ALICE Threshold are experiencing extreme challenges daily by the economic, health, and systems that are not set up for their success. Improving conditions for ALICE families fuels economic growth, benefiting all households, communities and businesses in the state. Together, we can create communities where ALICE, and all households, thrive in Connecticut.
If you would like to be a part of unlocking the solutions for these families, contact your local legislator's office. You can call, write, or complete the form at the bottom of this page > https://www.ctunitedway.org/petition/
