VITA – VOLUNTEER INCOME TAX ASSISTANCE
This service provides you with a trained volunteer income tax specialist who will prepare your taxes for you. They will ask you the right questions and process your paperwork according to your specific tax requirements. This free tax preparation service is for low-to-moderate-income individuals and families. United Way believes that this free service helps more families achieve financial stability—and thrive.
Last tax season, almost 4,000 neighbors were served and through VITA, $1.1M were saved in tax prep fees. That's approximately $300 on average per client. Form 1099-G from the state of CT showing any unemployment compensation

Interest, dividend and investment statements from your financial institutions

Information on any expenses you paid in 2023: tuition and student loans (Form 1098T, 1098E); annual mortgage statement; charitable contributions; home or car taxes paid to your town; documentation from any child care provider of their tax ID number and how much you paid
