Alea'S STORY
Quality, affordable, and inclusive child care is what matters to Alea the most. It is critical to her children’s education so they can succeed.
This single mom found what she was looking for in United Way’s Early Head Start program partner, Morning Glory in New Haven, where her children have flourished. Alea raves about the program. She shares that her children were well taken care of—potty trained, learned their letters and numbers, received home-cooked meals, and learned how to interact effectively in a community of other children.
“My twins learned so much and were very advanced when they went to kindergarten.”
As a single mom with a busy schedule who is cost-conscious, another factor that Alea appreciates is that Early Head Start provides flexible curriculum hours and discounted rates that make it affordable to families.
Inspired by the advancements she saw in her twins, and the quality and accessibility of Early Head Start, Alea joined the Early Head Start Policy Council.
This council convenes to discuss ways to make continued improvements with Early Head Start partners like Morning Glory and addresses the needs of Early Head Start parents and children across Greater New Haven.
“Joining the Policy Council was an awesome opportunity for me. It’s helped me to look at Early Head Start in a different way, and on a deeper level.”
Alea is using her voice to advocate for a program she believes in, as she has seen first-hand the impact that this type of care and curriculum has on the academic and personal development of children.
“Single mothers and all mothers benefit from this program. Supporters should continue to invest because it’s helping the next generation to succeed. The program is set up so that your child can only succeed.”
