NEW HAVEN TUTORING INITIATIVE GRANT - FALL 2024

Grant Deadline Friday, August 30 at 4PM

United Way of Greater New Haven is releasing the next New Haven Tutoring Initiative grant opportunity, NHTI Infusion Model, for after-school youth agencies and community organizations for the Fall 2024 academic semester.

The City of New Haven funded the New Haven Tutoring Initiative to help New Haven Public School students in kindergarten to 8th grade improve their reading and math skills. The goal of this grant is to assist community groups and organizations (places of worship, childcare centers, youth agencies, sports & arts programs, etc.) in New Haven to have the resources and support they need for impactful afterschool tutoring experiences, helping children build their academic skills.

All funded grantees will receive coaching and program supports from either New Haven Reads or New Haven Counts; books and supplies for Infusion tutoring activities; and $2,000 to offset costs for additional staff training.

Please review the details below to decide if your organization is interested in and meets the requirements for an Infusion Grant.

THE INFUSION MODEL

The Infusion Model is intended for youth organizations and community organizations that are new to offering academic activities as part of their after-school programming and/or for smaller organizations with limited staff capacity. Infusion Model programming will offer less structured, larger group reading (e.g. read-alouds, group book discussions) and math (e.g. fact fluency and vocabulary games). New Haven Reads and New Haven Counts will work with these partners to train staff on the general program set up for larger group literacy and math activities and conduct frequent program visits to provide coaching support.

Infusion partners are expected to add reader or math tutoring activities to their existing after-school programming. Infusion activities must take place a minimum of (2) times each week for (1) hour activity sessions, and for a minimum of 10 weeks over the fall semester (October 7 - December 20).

Please read the full grant overview below and use the link to submit the application. There will be a virtual grant support "Office Hours" session on Tuesday, August 27 at 3:00 - 4:00PM to answer any questions about the grant or you can reach out to Shelly Hicks at shicks@uwgnh.org.
