The New Haven Tutoring Initiative (NHTI) is seeking proactive and dedicated Education Interns.
These part-time interns will work closely with Literacy Instructors and Site Staff. This role offers
hands-on experience in reading education, community engagement, and nonprofit operations.

Education Internship Supported by New Haven Reads

Prerequisite Requirement:
15 hours of volunteering as a tutor learning the ins and outs of the role tutoring reading. Ages 16-24.

Work Hours and Schedule:
4-10 hours a week, weekdays between 2:30-7pm or Saturdays 10am-2pm. Summer hours vary.

Key Responsibilities:

1. On-Site Support:

  • Collaborate with Literacy Instructors and on-site teams to support classroom activities and small group sessions.
  • Provide 1-on-1 literacy tutoring to individual students

2. High School Liaison:

  • Serve as a liaison to your respective high school, actively promoting New Haven Tutoring Initiative programs and recruiting high school volunteers.
  • Hang up flyers, engage classmates, and encourage volunteer involvement to support the growth of our programs.

3. Marketing and Testimonial Support:

  • Collect photos, videos, and testimonials that highlight student engagement and program impact.
  • Blog posts and other potential projects for Outreach Team

Qualifications:

  • Applicants must be between ages 16 and 24.
  • Passion for education, youth development, and community engagement.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team with diverse groups of people.
  • Enthusiasm for promoting volunteerism and community involvement.
  • Reliable, punctual, and responsible.
  • Proficiency in Google Office Suite and virtual communication tools.
