Before the pandemic, 46% of families in the greater New Haven region could not afford the basics, including food and housing. COVID-19 is disrupting lives and creating an uncertain future for even more families. The Neighbors United program delivers financial support directly into the hands of families to buy food, medicine, and other essentials through fast, innovative mobile technology.

“The funds were very helpful. I had run out of oil to heat my home and because of the [financial support] I can now keep our house warm.” – New Haven Recipient

For Giving Tuesday Now, donate to Neighbors United with 100% of your contribution going directly to families in need. Thanks to a generous donor, all gifts to Neighbors United up to $25,000 will be matched dollar for dollar.

United Way is leading the effort locally to get masks and other protective equipment into the hands of our frontline partners. Working with MakeHaven and other generous donors, UWGNH has distributed over 4,700 face masks and shields to 53 local organizations including shelters, hospitals, food providers, and learning centers.

“Liberty Community Services provides homeless and housing services in Greater New Haven. One big challenge has been getting the necessary tools like cleaning supplies and personal protective equipment, particularly masks for staff and tenants. Big kudos to the United Way of Greater New Haven for being there to fill this need. Thank you United Way for your ongoing innovation and support helping us, help others!” – Jim Pettinelli, Liberty Community Services
