EARLY HEAD START ON THE RADIO

"I knew I wanted to stay in school, I just didn't know how that was [going to be] possible," said Ciera.

Did you catch us on Dateline New Haven discussing Early Head Start? Jennifer Heath, President and CEO of United Way of Greater New Haven, and Ciera Viera, a former Early Head Start mom and current policy council member, were interviewed on New Haven Independent’s radio program.

Jennifer explains what Early Head Start is, and how our Early Head Start work makes a difference in the lives of both children and parents.

“[Early Head Start is a] set of services that are provided to young children, infants and toddlers, and their families. And it provides year-round, full-day, high-quality early care and education for the infants and toddlers, and then family supports for the moms and dads, so they’re on the path to reaching their life goals.”

Ciera has shared her story with us before, but gets even more candid with Jennifer and radio host Paul Bass about what it’s like raising a child, and how Early Head Start has played a major role in their success.

The success of Ciera and her son, Jayceon, are why United Way supports this work.

“I knew I wanted to stay in school, I just didn’t know how that was [going to be] possible, but this was even way before I knew about the program.”

How did Ciera do it?

“The support made it way easier.”
